31,430-Trial Study Reveals Frequent Zero-Byte Outputs Across Major LLMs
rayanpal_ · reddit · 2026-07-31
A frozen cross-vendor study across 11 GPT, Claude, Gemini, and Kimi LLMs revealed 11,658 successful executions with exactly zero visible UTF-8 output bytes out of 31,430 trials. Across 4,290 strict matched semantic pairs, null-condition arms produced 2,505 of these "Voids," while matched output-licensed controls produced zero. The researcher notes these were not caused by refusals, safety blocks, rate limits, or transport failures. Raw records and verification code have been made public.
