Claude Opus Plays Slay the Spire: Slow but Plays Without Any Special Harness
Jsevillamol · x · 2026-07-31
A streamer tested Claude Opus playing the card game Slay the Spire via Computer use, sharing several observations:
- Gameplay Strategy: Opus plays like a "silly boy." It overweights card synergy, misplays constantly, and makes questionable choices like resting at nearly full health instead of upgrading cards. It is far from AGI-level.
- Execution Speed: Computer use with Opus is very slow initially. However, once it settles on a sequence of actions, it executes them reasonably quickly.
- AGI Discussion: The streamer and @TheZvi discussed how close to AGI an AI needs to be to fully beat the game. They expect the model to progress through ascension levels fairly quickly, but reliably beating the highest difficulty still won't indicate very general capabilities.
- The Highlight: The most impressive part is that "It Just Works." There was no need for a special harness or prompting; they simply asked it to play, and it did.
