Top ML Conferences Receive 100k Papers Yearly, But Can We Name 10 Greats?

The author points out that the top three ML conferences now receive around 100,000 paper submissions annually, yet it's hard to easily name 10 truly great papers from the last decade. He argues that something is fundamentally broken with the academic culture. In a follow-up, it was noted that even transformative and well-known papers like 'Attention Is All You Need' might not meet the strict criteria of being 'truly great'.
