Behavioral Study: AI Agents Undermine Human Social Norms in Cooperation

A new behavioral economics study explores how human cooperation changes when interacting with AI agents. The research finds that social norms, which typically guide and sustain human cooperation, lose much of their power when AI is involved.
Using the classic Public Goods Game, the researchers discovered that people don't outright refuse to cooperate with AI. Instead, the inability to accurately predict AI behavior causes reciprocal and generous norms to break down. The study further explains why this happens and what can be done to reverse the effect.
