Frontier Models Only Needed for Top 10% Tasks, Says a16z's Andrew Chen

Andrew Chen from a16z points out that open-weight and local models are dramatically catching up to frontier closed models, lagging by just a few months.
He predicts that over 90% of consumer and prosumer use cases will be fully served by cheap open-source models. The intense arms race for frontier models will narrow down to the remaining 10% of high-value domains, specifically coding, science, mathematics, and robotics.
