Merge says it has signed Microsoft’s Open Weights letter, arguing that open access to model weights extends the same builder-friendly logic that open infrastructure brought to software.
The linked Microsoft page frames open source as a foundation that let developers study, modify, and improve software, and says that ecosystem now underpins much of the internet as well as government and scientific workloads. The image shows a broad coalition of signatories, including Hugging Face, IBM, Intel, LangChain, Meta, Microsoft, Mistral, NVIDIA, OpenAI, Mozilla, Notion, Ollama, and others.
