Anthropic's choice on an industry sign-on list turns into branding theater
basedalexandoor · x · 2026-07-27
A post mocking the virtue-signaling around an industry sign-on list: it suggests that if Anthropic signs, people will forget in a week, but if it refuses, the company will gain more "aura" every time the list grows.
The attached image is a grid of companies already on the list, including names like AMD, Cisco, Cloudflare, Cohere, GitHub, Google, Hugging Face, IBM, Meta, Microsoft, Mistral, NVIDIA, OpenAI, Perplexity, Replit, Vercel and others.
The real signal here is less about the document itself and more about how AI companies use participation—or non-participation—as branding.
