LMSYS backs open weights as the engine behind Vicuna, FastChat, and SGLang

LMSYS says its own history is proof of the “open weights” thesis: Vicuna, FastChat, and later SGLang all followed the same pattern, where an open-weight model appears, a community forms around making it usable, and the tooling benefits everyone.
The post frames the open-weight movement as the diffusion story behind modern AI tooling and says the team is proud to have signed the letter because, in its view, the spirit of openness at LMSYS “never sleeps.”
