Claude Code Artifact public sharing fails with a generic error
A user reports that a published Claude Code Artifact can be viewed privately, but fails when shared publicly from the artifact page’s share menu. The UI shows a generic message:
> “This version can't be shared publicly. Publish a new version or change the shared version, then try again.”
Key details from the report:
- The artifact is a large self-contained HTML page, around 13–14 MB
- It includes multiple nested iframe srcdoc documents, inline React/ReactDOM/Babel runtime, base64-decoded script payloads, one 2 MB esbuild bundle, and some small data: URIs
- Re-publishing with actual content changes did not fix it
- Publishing the same content to a brand-new artifact URL also produced the same failure
- Private viewing continues to work normally; the problem only affects public sharing
