Sentient OS brings proactive computer-use agents to the Mac with an on-device LLM
TechExpert2910 · reddit · 2026-07-27
A new Mac app called Sentient OS uses an on-device multimodal LLM to read local files, screenshots, chats, email, and notes overnight, build a personal knowledge base, and proactively suggest or complete tasks via computer use.
- It runs locally by default on Apple Silicon Macs, with raw data staying on-device.
- The stack combines Gemma 4 E4B on a custom LiteRT-LM fork, speculative decoding, flash attention, and KV-cache reuse.
- A frontier cloud model can optionally handle the last 10% of work, but only receives PII-stripped summaries.
- The app also includes a “Sidekick” mode that can click around in the user’s own apps and browser to finish tasks.
