Open source is the rational move for AI players ranked third and below
beffjezos · x · 2026-07-26
Open source is framed as the rational move for players in 3rd place and beyond, because market share falls off exponentially and an open-core model can be positive EV.
In the quoted thread, the counterpoint is that category winners have little incentive to open their core moat: Nvidia won’t open CUDA, Apple won’t open iOS, Google won’t open Search, and Anthropic won’t open AGI.
