LangChain says companies will need to own their intelligence layer

LangChain’s Harrison Chase argues that any company building a business around AI will need to “own their intelligence,” not just rent generic models. He says the point is broader than model choice: over the next five years, companies will either use AI to run critical business functions or embed it directly into the product they sell.
The post frames open models as a major part of that shift, but not the whole story. The underlying message is that AI becomes strategic infrastructure only when a company controls enough of the intelligence layer to make it durable, differentiated, and portable.
