Robotics Pitfall: Don't Blame the Policy for Device Adapter Mismatches
Crazy_Earth_586 · reddit · 2026-07-26
In robotics development, issues from changing robot arms are often misdiagnosed. When joint names, camera topics, or control frequencies change, failed demos are frequently blamed on the policy. However, logs often reveal that an adapter mapped a valid action to the wrong device convention.
The author suggests using Claude Opus to read SDK docs and draft adapters, schema checks, and replay tests, allowing LingBot-VLA 2.0 to focus purely on the policy. Still, limits, timing, and emergency behaviors require physical hardware testing, and both adapters and policies need separate reviews and evaluations.
