OpenAI Codex Suffers Major 503 Outage: Even Max Users Hit by Circuit Breaker
gkjpettet · ghdev · 2026-07-25
Multiple users report widespread 503 Service Unavailable errors across the OpenAI Codex and ChatGPT apps, completely blocking new and existing chats.
The error code biscuitbakerservicemecircuitopen indicates a backend circuit breaker was triggered. Even Max tier subscribers ($100/month) with remaining usage are affected. Some users also noted concurrent request throttling prior to the outage. Although OpenAI's status page showed no active incidents at the time, the volume of identical errors confirms a partial service disruption.
