Jensen Huang’s first post on X was not a product teaser, but a letter titled “Open Weights and American AI Leadership” that takes a side in the open-vs-closed debate.
According to the post, 25 companies signed the letter, including NVIDIA, Meta, Microsoft, IBM, Dell, Hugging Face, Mistral, Mozilla, the Linux Foundation, Palantir, Perplexity, Replit, ServiceNow, CrowdStrike, a16z, and Y Combinator.
The argument is straightforward:
- open models let companies match the right model to the right job at the right cost
- they reduce dependence on a single provider
- open weights help safety, innovation, and sovereignty
The post frames the coalition as unusually broad for a topic where Meta, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Y Combinator all agree publicly.
