Claude Desktop reinstall on Windows wipes local Code session history
corywheeler · ghdev · 2026-07-18
A Windows reinstall of the Claude Desktop app reportedly wipes the Code tab’s local session history, including transcripts and the Recents list.
The reporter says regular Chat history and Projects survive because they are account-synced, but Code sessions are stored locally and were lost with no warning or recovery path after a full uninstall/reinstall. The issue is compared to an earlier data-loss report caused by auto-updates, suggesting a recurring failure mode for locally stored Code session data.
