Google and Google DeepMind released AI & Economy ATLAS v1.0, an ongoing research effort built from 15 million de-identified Gemini interactions across the Gemini app, Google AI Mode, and Gemini API.
What the study maps
- 800+ occupations, 4,000 tasks, 300 household activities
- 150 countries and 140 languages
- AI usage patterns across work and everyday life
Main findings
- In the workplace, AI adoption spans occupations covering a bit over 88% of U.S. employment, but penetration is still shallow and mostly collaborative rather than end-to-end automation.
- Outside work, AI use accounts for about 98% of Americans’ non-sleep time in the study’s framing, with especially high usage in high-friction tasks such as interacting with government and professional service providers.
- Globally, adoption scales with national wealth, and English makes up only about one third of query volume.
Chart-level takeaway
The accompanying figures suggest Gemini is used more for arts/design work in non-OECD countries, while computer/math and business/finance usage is more concentrated in OECD economies.
