Alphabet’s free cash flow turns negative as AI capex surges
The post argues that GOOGL’s free cash flow has gone negative for the first time ever as AI capital expenditures keep rising, and says the market is now judging the company less on headline earnings and more on the composition of growth, conversion, and cost coverage.
The attached chart from Bloomberg shows Alphabet’s quarterly free cash flow over time, with the latest quarter dropping below zero. The quoted earnings preview says investors will focus on questions like:
- what is actually inside cloud growth
- how much of the growth is being driven by AI spend
- whether the business can still cover the cost of that expansion
