COLMAP merges DEGENSAC into main RANSAC, boosting plane-heavy scenes

COLMAP has merged a new DEGENSAC option into its RANSAC pipeline.
- The change helps on plane-dominant scenes while leaving general cases essentially unchanged.
- In a large evaluation, turning DEGENSAC on improved global reconstruction metrics, with especially large gains on scenes like terrains and boulders.
- On a real south-building dataset, the post says the practical difference is negligible because the scene already reconstructs well without it.
- Verification over 4,210 image pairs showed slightly more inlier matches, about 1.1× verification wall time, and a 1.7× per-pair DEGENSAC cost that was reduced to roughly 10% higher overall after optimization.
- The analysis explains that DEGENSAC only changes the F estimate, so many config flips come from inlier-count threshold crossings around calibrated / uncalibrated and planar / panoramic decisions.
