Europe’s AI compute gap is being framed as a race against giant hyperscale plans
A quoted post argues that OpenAI, SpaceXAI and Anthropic announced compute plans amounting to 6 GW of additional power in a single day, on top of tens of GW already projected for the coming years.
The post’s main point is that France and Europe are far behind in compute scale. It says politicians do not yet grasp how urgent the race is, that celebrating funding for only a few dozen MW misses the scale of the problem, and that Mistral can currently plan for only 1 GW available by 2030.
The author uses this to argue for a much larger public and private push: without investing hundreds of billions into a frontier lab backed by sufficient compute, Europe risks losing the AI race.
