White House Accuses Moonshot AI of Distilling Anthropic Models; Jensen Huang Pushes Back

TheTuringPost · x · 2026-07-23

The White House recently accused Chinese AI company Moonshot AI of developing a sophisticated internal platform to conduct large-scale distillation of Anthropic's models for its K3 model. They also claimed Moonshot acquired GB300 servers in Thailand to train models while avoiding detection.

On the same day, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang took a very different stance in an Axios interview. He argued that US companies should use Chinese open models and that restricting them could make the US less secure. Observers note this highlights conflicting incentives: frontier labs benefit from keeping intelligence scarce, while NVIDIA benefits from capable models spreading everywhere to drive compute demand.
