AMD and Anthropic strike a $5 billion deal for 2 gigawatts of AI compute
The Verge AI · rss · 2026-07-22
AMD and Anthropic announced a major AI infrastructure partnership worth up to $5 billion.
What the deal includes
- AMD says it will invest up to $5 billion in Anthropic.
- Anthropic will deploy up to 2 gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450 GPUs.
- The deployment uses AMD’s new Helios rack-scale system.
- The first 1 gigawatt is planned for the first half of 2027.
Why it matters
Anthropic has been lining up large-scale infrastructure agreements across the industry, including deals with Google, Broadcom, Amazon, SpaceX, and TeraWulf. This AMD tie-up is another sign that frontier-model companies are locking in massive compute supply far ahead of demand.
