Z.ai completes a 1-gigawatt data center built entirely on Chinese chips

Bloomberg reports that Z.ai, formerly known as Zhipu, has finished construction of a 1GW AI data center and has already begun partial operations. The facility is said to rely entirely on Chinese-made chips and will support the company’s frontier GLM models.

The report also says Z.ai has built or operates several clusters with more than 10,000 chips each. At this scale, the hub would rank among the largest server centers built by a Chinese AI lab, highlighting the broader push to replace restricted Nvidia silicon with domestic alternatives.
