Open models are the cybersecurity defense, not the risk, says Clement Delangue

OpenAI-safe? No—this post argues the opposite: open models can be a better cybersecurity defense than closed APIs. The core claim is that attackers can already jailbreak many APIs or guardrails, while defenders need systems they can inspect, test, run locally, and actually control.
The argument is that black-box models create a security blind spot. In the poster’s view, open weights let defenders build auditable tooling and incident response around the model itself, instead of trusting an external vendor’s opaque safety layer.
