Google is reportedly building a Gemini-specific chip

Google is reportedly working on a new chip, informally called **Frozen v2**, that would bake more of Gemini’s model-specific logic into silicon. - The chip is said to target **6–10× more tokens per watt** than Google’s latest TPU generation. - It may launch as early as **2028**. - The motivation is a serious **AI compute shortage**; Google Cloud has reportedly turned down outside customers. - The tradeoff is rigidity: future Gemini models would need to keep the same underlying architecture to use the chip effectively. In short, Google is pushing beyond TPU-style general acceleration toward tighter model–hardware co-design.
