Databricks Faces Surging GPU Demand

AashaySachdeva · x · 2026-07-20

Databricks' CEO stated that the company hosts open-source models including Kimi, and customer demand is so strong that GPUs are running low across multiple regions. The Asian region is nearly exhausted, and demand from Japan, South Korea, the US, and India is also rising.

Consequently, the company needs to purchase a massive number of additional GPUs, which are very expensive. The CEO noted that their recent funding round was triggered precisely by this surge in customer requests and the need for more compute capacity.
