Codex Context Length Slashed to 272k
petrusenko_max · x · 2026-07-20
OpenAI has reportedly reduced Codex's context length from 372k token to 272k.
This means that when working with larger codebases or workflows, tighter prompt engineering and higher token efficiency are required. With long-context capabilities diminished, the way complex programming tasks are handled will also be impacted.
