Users Report ChatGPT Account Anomalies and Model Downgrades
jasondeanlee · x · 2026-07-19
Users have reported suspected hidden downgrades and locks on their ChatGPT accounts: the web version fails to open conversations and forces redirects, while the desktop app ignores user-selected models and forcibly defaults to GPT 5.5 instant without any notification. Currently, only the iPad version functions somewhat normally.
The author expresses frustration with this opaque restriction, arguing that even if limitations are necessary, the platform shouldn't secretly switch models and ignore user choices.
