LightOn Releases Multimodal Reranker
antoine_chaffin · x · 2026-07-16
LightOn has released LightOn-rerank: a set of multimodal rerankers capable of processing both text passages and scanned page images simultaneously, designed to more accurately determine "what an agent should see."
Highlights
- Offers both Pointwise and Listwise models, allowing trade-offs between quality, model size, and serving speed.
- On ViDoRe V3, LightOn-rerank-LW-4B outperforms Qwen 8B at only half the size.
- The 2B version maintains 97%+ quality while offering faster inference, making it ideal for throughput-focused deployments.
The core value proposition is reducing context noise, enabling agents to read more reliable evidence.
