Model Discovers Suspected Heart Failure Mutation

Sauers_ · x · 2026-07-15

Researchers used a foundation model to identify a mutation not listed in ClinVar. It is located within a gene inversion associated with heart failure and causes a catastrophic disruption of stability to a key protein.

The subsequent mechanistic chain was explained: the inactivation of this protein affects calcium pump-related pathways, slowing calcium clearance in cardiomyocytes during diastole. This leads to diastolic dysfunction, ultimately pointing toward diastolic heart failure.
