Blindfolded Experts Improve Imitation Learning

The author shares an intuitive insight from a Technion study: when collecting data for imitation learning, "blindfolding" the expert providing the data (restricting their perception) actually leads to better test performance. This is because the limitation forces the imitator to learn how to explore the boundary conditions for success, rather than merely copying the expert's explicit actions. The phenomenon was validated on tasks like shape insertion.
