Open Source Video Editor Integrates Local MCP
VisualFXMan · reddit · 2026-07-14
The author released Velorn: a free, open-source video editor designed to integrate generative capabilities directly into the editing workflow, eliminating the need to switch between standalone applications.
- Connects directly to your existing ComfyUI, supporting in-timeline context generation: text-to-image, image-to-video, text-to-video, and text-to-music.
- Allows importing any ComfyUI workflow JSON and transforms it into a reusable, form-based interface; it also checks for missing nodes and models.
- Features a "Director Mode": given a song, it automatically analyzes rhythm/sections, plans shots, generates them in batches, and backfills the timeline.
- Local-first: requires no account, cloud services, or credits; project files are stored as local folders.
- Built-in local MCP server (100+ tools) enables AI agents to directly view the timeline, generate assets, edit to the beat, and mix audio, with every step being previewable and undoable.
- The project is currently at v0.3.3, maintained by a single author, GPL open-source, with builds available for Windows/macOS/Linux.
