Tegmark Warns of Higher Superintelligence Risks
galipeau · x · 2026-07-13
In a relayed statement, Max Tegmark reiterated that if superintelligence is left unchecked, it could pose extremely high risks to human civilization.
Citing his judgment from a top European conference paper, he believes the probability of "unregulated AI advancement" leading to a loss of control over civilization could be higher than his previously public estimate of 20%. His core points are:
- Companies are not just building "slightly smarter chatbots"
- The goal is superintelligence capable of surpassing humans in almost all jobs
- Such systems could also control robots and other machines with extremely high competence
- The real issue isn't whether capabilities improve, but the systemic consequences of losing control
