Running GPT-5.6 Sol in Claude Code
dr_cintas · x · 2026-07-13
OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol can run inside Claude Code using two setup methods:
- Official Plugin: Install via /plugin marketplace add openai/codex-plugin-cc, then run /codex:setup to unlock capabilities like /codex:review, /codex:adversarial-review, and /codex:rescue.
- Proxy Method: Use an environment variable to point CLAUDECODESUBAGENTMODEL to gpt-5.6-sol, making Sol the primary model.
The author also mentions that Claude Code allows you to set the subagent model and effort yourself, but Sol Ultra might consume several times the tokens of a base run, so cost control is important during actual use.
