Codex Takes the Lead with Superior Voice Transcription

The author believes that an underrated advantage of Codex over Claude Code is OpenAI's superior speech-to-text. This makes the Codex mobile experience noticeably smoother: users can speak continuously for a few minutes on their phone, get highly accurate transcription quickly, and then pass the text to the model. In contrast, Anthropic's transcription is more prone to semantic-breaking errors, requiring time-consuming manual corrections.

The author adds that if both use external tools like Wispr Flow, the gap narrows; however, in native mobile voice mode, Codex is much more convenient. As they increasingly work on mobile and dictate 5–10 minute thought streams to the model, this transcription gap has actually become a more critical dividing line between Codex and Claude Code.
