Vitalik on the Clashing Worldviews Behind the AI 2040 Debate

Vitalik Buterin points out that both sides of the "AI 2040" debate are actually built on completely different worldviews:
- One camp believes that superintelligence will emerge almost naturally by around 2040 without massive effort.
- The other camp criticizes this view for overestimating AI progress and underestimating human coordination, yet they implicitly assume the "ASI transition" will happen smoothly on its own, failing to seriously address the power concentration risks brought by superintelligence itself.
He emphasizes that if AI truly surpasses humans in almost all tasks, human "hard power" could drop to near zero. Under this premise, treating AI as ordinary technology in discussions is fundamentally flawed.
