OpenAI's Fidji Simo is transitioning from her full-time role to a part-time advisor position, stepping back from daily leadership. She mentioned taking medical leave three months ago due to worsening chronic illness, and as her recovery proved longer and more complex than expected, she decided to focus on her health.
The post also notes that Simo joined OpenAI from Instacart in May 2025 to drive the conversion of powerful models into monetizable products; she previously led consumer platforms at Facebook and Instacart. During her leave, Greg Brockman has been overseeing product-related duties.
