OpenAI Senior Researcher Jacob Achiam shared a farewell message on Slack announcing his departure from the company this month. He joined OpenAI as a 25-year-old intern in 2017, a time when computers could not converse or think. Now 34 and with a family, he believes the world has uncovered the secrets of AI, and the mission can now be advanced outside of frontier labs. He emphasized that there is no specific reason for leaving other than feeling that the time is right after considering it for a long time.
