Robotic Cable Manipulation: The Ultimate Sim-to-Real Challenge
stepjamUK · x · 2026-07-06
Robotics researchers point out that cable manipulation remains one of the most daunting sim-to-real gaps in the field. Cables possess nearly infinite degrees of freedom and tangle unpredictably, making their dynamics incredibly hard to model. Even the best simulators struggle to close the gap without real-world data. The team continues to push this work forward using new Universal Robots hardware.
