Open Source Tool Headroom Claims to Cut Claude Code Tokens by 90%

After receiving a $287 AI bill, a Netflix engineer realized 90% of tokens were completely wasted and developed the open-source tool Headroom.
Deployed between AI Agents and models, it pre-compresses tool outputs, logs, files, and RAG snippets before they reach the model. Delivering the same information with drastically fewer tokens, it reportedly reduces Claude Code token usage by up to 92%.
