Databricks Genie One vs Anthropic Claude Cowork

The author compares two "AI coworker" products. Anthropic Claude Cowork is a desktop agent that directly operates local computers, excelling at unblocking local workflow bottlenecks (organizing messy folders, synthesizing multiple documents into new slides, etc.), but lacks data context and security boundaries when dealing with cloud data warehouses; even adding MCP isn't sufficient.
Databricks Genie One approaches from the governance layer. Based on Unity Catalog and the new Genie Ontology, it securely searches real-time tables, connects to enterprise cloud sources like SharePoint, and automatically generates reports in Slack, but it cannot access local computers at all. The author believes the ideal architecture is having Claude Cowork call Genie One.
