Fable 5 Shifts to Usage-Based Pricing as GPT-5.6 Sol Undercuts by Half
VraserX · x · 2026-07-03
Analysis indicates Anthropic's Fable 5 will remain subscription-only until July 7 before shifting to usage-based pricing. Meanwhile, OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol will be available to a broader user base at roughly half the API price of Fable 5. OpenAI's Terminal-Bench 2.1 scores show GPT-5.6 Sol Ultra at 91.9%, GPT-5.6 Sol at 88.8%, Claude Mythos 5 at 88.0%, Claude Fable 5 at 84.3%, and GPT-5.6 Terra at 84.3%. The author suggests that by offering a lower-priced model that matches or surpasses Fable 5 just as it leaves the subscription tier, OpenAI is putting significant pressure on Anthropic.
