A large closure at ByteDance: ByteDance Doubao/Seed (字节跳动豆包/Seed) closed 26 roles in one day. That is the biggest single-day closure in the data. It added none today.

Company moves

OpenAI added 6 roles, closed 1, and has 814 open. Two are in Applied AI in New York City: "Software Engineer, Full Stack — Dots" and "Software Engineer, Mobile Web — Dots". Together with the London child-safety engineering role, that is three Applied AI engineering hires. The rest are non-research: communications, chip finance and partner growth. The chip finance title suggests custom silicon is now a budgeted line.

Anthropic added 4 roles, closed 3, and has 655 open. The titles are "Policy Design Manager, Integrity and Authenticity", "Customer Success Manager, Enterprise Tech", "Tabletop Exercise Lead, The Anthropic Institute" and "Technical Program Manager, Science Strategy & Communications". None is a core engineering role. The mix covers policy, enterprise customers and public-benefit work.

NVIDIA added 1 role, closed 2, and has 562 open. The new role is "Machine Learning Engineer, GeForce G-Assist" in Santa Clara, which points at consumer-facing AI features.

SpaceXAI added 1 role, closed 2, and has 304 open. The new role is the weld inspector in Memphis, a construction-quality position for a data-center site. It follows yesterday's Memphis site-reliability and network roles.

Together AI added 2 roles and has 78 open. Both are research internships on "Frontier Speculative Decoding", one for Winter 2027 and one for Summer 2027, in San Francisco. Speculative decoding is an inference-speed technique.

ByteDance Doubao/Seed closed 26 roles, leaving 856 open, still the largest count in the data. Meta AI closed 3 and Cerebras 2. Apple AIML and Meituan LongCat (美团·龙猫) each closed 2, and Scale AI closed 1.

The other companies had no change in the past day.

What it signals

Over seven days, the global labs added 260 roles and the Chinese labs added 139. OpenAI leads at 52, then NVIDIA at 44, Anthropic at 42, Meta AI at 34 and Google DeepMind at 31. Today's slow day does not change that picture. At OpenAI and Anthropic, 52 and 42 additions across a week and 6 and 4 today suggest a steady pace. Google DeepMind has 31 additions over seven days but none today, so its hiring comes in batches.

The Chinese labs are less even. StepFun (阶跃星辰) added 72 roles in seven days, the most of any company in the data and well ahead of Baidu AI (百度 AI) at 30 and ByteDance Doubao/Seed at 22. StepFun had 297 open roles and no additions today. Most of the other Chinese labs added between 0 and 5 over the week. DeepSeek (深度求索) and Moonshot AI (月之暗面 Kimi) added 1 each. Zhipu AI (智谱 AI), Meituan LongCat, SenseTime SenseNova (商汤日日新) and Alibaba Tongyi Qwen (阿里通义千问) added none. Hiring in China is concentrated in a few large employers rather than spread across the field.

Some companies were flat. Microsoft AI and Mistral AI added nothing in seven days. Microsoft AI has 622 open roles and Mistral 168. Pika Labs and Genmo were also unchanged, at 15 and 5 open roles. Flat counts at small companies say little, since one hire or closure moves the figure by a large share.

Today's titles lean toward trust, enterprise and the physical layer rather than model research. These are the safety, policy, partner, chip-finance and data-center roles listed above. One day of 16 additions is a thin sample, so this is a pattern in the day's titles. The seven-day figures do not show a field-wide shift.
