AI Hiring Brief · 2026-09-26
32 frontier AI labs · 49 roles added in 24h · agihunt.info/en/jobs
Today at a glance
- DeepMind pairs silicon with safety: Google DeepMind added a Semiconductor Material Science Research Scientist, a Power Systems Research Engineer and a Technical Program Manager, Off-the-Shelf Hardware alongside two dedicated alignment hires — Research Scientist, Safety Oversight and Research Scientist, AGI Safety and Alignment (both London) — hardware and alignment research advancing in the same batch.
- Anthropic's international back-office build-out: Alongside a Product Designer, Safeguards, Anthropic opened People Legal Counsel, APAC (Sydney), Finance & Strategy, Deal Desk - APAC (Tokyo) and Finance & Strategy, Deal Strategy (London) — legal and finance scaffolding catching up with its overseas footprint.
- OpenAI scales global support and touches hardware/bio: five identical Dedicated Support Engineer postings landed across Toronto, Singapore, Dublin, Tokyo and San Francisco, while a Wireless Regulatory Engineer - SAR in Consumer Devices and an Engineering Manager, Rosalind Workbench in Life Sciences point to device-certification and biology-product work continuing in parallel.
- Silicon shows up at four labs at once: Meta AI posted an ASIC Engineer, Power and a Software Engineer - Host Networking, Cerebras added a Senior ASIC RTL Design Engineer, AI Hardware, and Apple AIML opened an Apple Neural Engine Performance and Power Engineer — custom-chip and power engineering appearing across multiple labs the same day.
- A net-negative day with a China-side outlier: across the 32 labs tracked, 49 roles opened against 64 closures in the last 24 hours; ByteDance Doubao/Seed alone accounted for 11 of those closures — the largest single-day closure count in today's data.
Company moves
OpenAI added 14 and closed 10 today (73 over 7 days). Beyond the support-ops cluster, it opened a Client Partner, Ads Solutions (Spanish Speaking) in Dublin and an Account Director, Digital Natives | MENA in Abu Dhabi — sales expansion running alongside the device and life-sciences hires.
Anthropic added 8 and closed 14 (54 over 7 days), the largest closure count of the day. Its new roles split between the Safeguards product design hire and the APAC/EMEA legal-finance cluster noted above, plus a Partner Manager, Microsoft Co-sell — channel partnerships advancing alongside safety product work.
Google DeepMind (谷歌 DeepMind) added 9 and closed 4 (27 over 7 days). Beyond the hardware/safety split above, it also opened an AI Ecosystem Developer Relations Manager for Kaggle and a Manager, Technical Program Manager, GenAI Safety — safety oversight now spanning both research and program-management tracks.
Meta AI added 4 and closed 5 (29 over 7 days). Its new roles are split evenly between core research (Research Scientist, Artificial Intelligence; Software Engineer, Systems ML - Compilers) and infrastructure (ASIC Engineer, Power; Software Engineer - Host Networking) — the hardware tilt seen in recent days continuing at a smaller scale.
Apple AIML added 2 and closed 3 (14 over 7 days): an Apple Neural Engine Performance and Power Engineer and a machine-learning ops/sales engineering role — small but silicon-adjacent additions.
SpaceXAI added 6 and closed 3 (30 over 7 days). Its new postings sit mostly outside core model research — an Iron Worker, a Supervisor of Power Generation and a Facilities Maintenance Technician, all tied to its Memphis data-center build, plus a Growth Recruiter and Growth Recruiting Coordinator for Human Data and a Vulnerability Analyst — data-center construction and human-data recruiting dominate today's batch rather than model work.
Perplexity added 2 and closed 1 (10 over 7 days): a Search Core DevOps Engineer and a Global Mobility Lead — infrastructure hiring paired with international people-ops support.
Cursor added 1 and closed 1 (6 over 7 days): a Forward Deployed Strategist covering Singapore and Australia, extending its go-to-market reach into APAC.
Together AI added 1 (2 over 7 days): a Senior Recruiter, GTM & Business — building recruiting capacity for commercial roles.
Cerebras added 2 and closed 1 (7 over 7 days): the ASIC RTL design hire above plus an ERP Engineer for business systems — chip design continuing alongside back-office tooling.
A handful of labs closed roles today without posting replacements: NVIDIA (英伟达) closed 1 (29 added over 7 days, otherwise steady), Baidu AI (百度 AI) closed 2 (15 added over 7 days), Meituan LongCat (美团·龙猫) closed 2 (1 added over 7 days), and ByteDance Doubao/Seed (字节跳动豆包/Seed) closed 11 — its largest single-day closure figure here — against 25 added over the past week. Scale AI closed 6 today versus just 3 added over the entire week, the sharpest net contraction in the dataset.
Microsoft AI, Mistral AI, Lovable, Cohere, Moonshot AI (月之暗面 Kimi), DeepSeek (深度求索), Zhipu AI (智谱 AI), StepFun (阶跃星辰), ModelBest (面壁智能), Tencent Hunyuan (腾讯混元), MiniMax (Hailuo) (MiniMax 海螺), 01.AI (Yi) (零一万物), SenseTime SenseNova (商汤日日新), Alibaba Tongyi Qwen (阿里通义千问), Pika Labs, Aleph Alpha and Genmo posted no net change today.
What it signals
The 7-day figures widen the gap between global and Chinese labs. The 19 global companies tracked added roughly 469 roles combined over the past week, versus about 74 across the 13 Chinese labs — even setting aside Microsoft AI's outsized 171, the global cohort is still posting several times the volume of China's frontier-model builders. Among the Chinese labs, only ByteDance Doubao/Seed (25), Baidu AI (15) and StepFun (11) cleared double digits over 7 days; the rest — including DeepSeek, Zhipu AI and Alibaba Tongyi Qwen, all at zero — show essentially flat postings for the week.
Safety and alignment hiring looks less like a reactive spike and more like a standing function that scales with geographic growth. Anthropic's Product Designer, Safeguards and DeepMind's two AGI-safety research scientists landed the same day as APAC legal counsel, deal-desk finance staff and a Kaggle developer-relations manager — trust-and-safety and international-operations hiring are moving in parallel rather than trading off against each other.
Compute and power engineering remain a cross-lab constant even when headline research roles are quiet. DeepMind, Meta AI, Cerebras and Apple AIML all posted hardware- or power-adjacent roles today — spanning semiconductor materials, ASIC design, host networking and on-device silicon performance — while SpaceXAI's additions were almost entirely data-center construction and facilities staff for its Memphis buildout. None of this is model-research hiring; it's the physical infrastructure layer underneath it.
Finally, scale doesn't always mean net growth. ByteDance Doubao/Seed carries the largest open roster in the entire dataset at 881 — ahead of OpenAI's 830 and Anthropic's 623 — yet it closed 11 roles today against 25 added over the week, suggesting a large pipeline churning through reqs rather than steadily expanding. Scale AI shows a sharper version of the same pattern, closing 6 today against only 3 additions for the whole week, a lab visibly trimming rather than hiring right now.
