Ai2's HiRO-ACEv2 Simulates Global Extreme Weather at 3km Resolution at 1/300 the Cost

On October 15, Allen AI (Ai2) released HiRO-ACEv2, a climate simulation system that can generate multi-year global climate data at 3km resolution in bulk at roughly 1/300 the cost of X-SHiELD, differing by less than 3% from X-SHiELD in the statistical characteristics of extreme events. This marks AI simulation starting to become a practical substitute in extreme weather—hardest area for traditional numerical models to cover.
