Creators Demo OpenAI Codex Taking Over CapCut PC for Fully Automated Video Editing
On October 13-14, multiple creators demonstrated desktop-automated editing workflows where OpenAI Codex directly controls the CapCut PC client via the CapCut plugin in ChatGPT, drawing wide attention.
Confirmed
- @HeyAmit was the first to showcase the flow: generating a character with a GPT image model, then using AI Video to automate parts of the edit, with Codex executing the work rather than merely generating content
- Creator Jaynit Makwana then ran multiple hands-on tests: after connecting Codex to CapCut PC, he issued instructions via prompts as if briefing an editor, and Codex autonomously built the character, rendered a white model, generated the video, and delivered a first timeline draft—humans only had to watch
- DataChaz (relayed by @SucceededMind) also used Codex to control the CapCut desktop app, testing whether AI can go from an idea straight to a finished video
Why it matters
- @SucceededMind highlights the key shift: generating content is one thing; agent-style control over the editing timeline like Codex is another—AI is moving from a "generation tool" toward taking over the entire creation pipeline
- Steps that previously required manual menu-by-menu operation—asset generation, rendering, rough cuts—get compressed into a few prompts, suggesting agent-driven operation of desktop software could reshape video creation workflows
