Yacine Open-Sources Dingcad: Prompt-to-Codex Free AI CAD Design

On Sept 6, well-known AI developer Yacine (@yacineMTB) released Dingcad, an open-source project: users simply copy his provided prompt into Codex to generate CAD designs entirely for free. He later noted it took only 3 hours from idea to launch — "kind of insane" — and, per vincic, most of the code was written by an LLM. The next day Kenneth Cassel demonstrated an end-to-end workflow with the tool, underscoring its practical viability in hardware manufacturing.

Dingcad is a low-barrier, plug-and-play tool: it ships with a copyable prompt and link, is free, and the author encourages remixing (m1/m4/m7).
Yacine said he wrapped manifoldcad with UX improvements to build a CAD tool that can be iterated "by talking"; because the code iterates too fast he keeps no public repo, and teased a free out-of-the-box service launching that night (m3).
Technically, dingcad is a hot-reloading CAD scripting tool positioned as an OpenSCAD alternative: editing scene.js instantly refreshes the 3D scene, built on raylib, manifoldcad and quickjs (m8).
Yacine also recommended dingcad, his JavaScript manifold-based CAD wrapper library, for rapid iteration (m6).
On Sept 7, Kenneth Cassel posted Dingcad with a demo: using Codex from the CLI to design a chair welded from tubing and sheet metal, generating a STEP file with weld annotations, running DFM checks and getting automatic quotes (m5).

Why it matters

Yacine argues models will keep getting faster, and the bottleneck for generating CAD shapes will shift away from model capability to other parts of the pipeline (m4).
