Microsoft launches MAI-Image-2.6 and Flash edition with price-performance pitch

On September 5, Microsoft AI chief Mustafa Suleyman announced MAI-Image-2.6 and its lighter sibling MAI-Image-2.6-Flash, both live on Microsoft Foundry with developer APIs, and available to consumers via MAI Playground. Microsoft claims Flash is 2x faster than GPT-Image-2 (per @eyishazyer, the comparison is against the GPT-Image-2-Medium tier at 2.8x) with 72% better GPU efficiency, billing it as best price-performance globally.

• MAI-Image-2.6 exited preview and is generally available on Azure AI Foundry; it ties Grok Imagine Image 2.0 for second on LMArena's Image Edit leaderboard with an Elo of 1439.
• In Artificial Analysis's image editing leaderboard, MAI-Image-2.6-Flash ranks third, behind Microsoft's own MAI-Image-2.6, a big jump from the previous Flash generation, and sits on the quality-price Pareto frontier alongside MAI-Image-2.6; it has also entered the Text to Image leaderboard.
