MIT Study: Hundreds of AI Agents Spontaneously Develop Division of Labor

MIT researchers placed hundreds of identical AI agents in a shared environment and found they spontaneously specialized into roles such as explorers, builders, guardians and coordinators without any direct communication. The agents even invented technologies collaboratively, and their infrastructure survived after all agents were removed.
