MIT study: AI agents spontaneously specialize into roles without direct communication
Malor777 · reddit · 2026-08-31
MIT researchers placed hundreds of identical AI agents in a simulated world and observed them spontaneously differentiate into explorers, builders, caretakers, and coordinators without direct communication. Remarkably, the agents began to 'invent' technologies without talking to each other. The study demonstrates the potential for multi-agent systems to develop complex social structures and capabilities without central command or explicit communication protocols.
